Descripción general

The Programming and Training Specialist (PTS) is the specialized member of the English Education (ED) Program Team responsible for conducting training for ED project trainees and volunteers within the country. As the training lead, the PTS prepares, organizes, implements, monitors, adjusts, and reports on the outcomes of various training events and the performance of trainees/volunteers. Working in constant collaboration with colleagues from the ED Program Team, the Training Team, and other key staff, the PTS manages the agenda and facilitates teaching-related sessions during training, while also developing the necessary materials and evaluations for each session. Given the expertise of the role, the PTS takes the initiative to stay current on principles and developments in English teaching and general teaching practices.

Equally important, the PTS supports the ED Program Manager and the ED Team with site identification and development, site visits to trainees/volunteers, observation and feedback, housing checks, and meetings with national/local counterparts and host families. The PTS also validates and verifies data related to project objectives, activities, and indicators, while analyzing data and proposing ideas for project development. Frequent travel to the various communities across the country where volunteers are serving is expected to fulfill these objectives.

The PTS also plays a vital role in providing support to volunteers throughout their two-year service, offering advice and acting in accordance with current Peace Corps policies. Additionally, the PTS supports specialized staff members in providing guidance regarding safety, security, and health matters.

Requisitos para aplicar

Minimum Qualifications:

BA (Bachillerato) in ESL/EFL Teaching, English Language, English Literature, or Translation.
Three years of in-person and/or online teaching experience in ESL/EFL, earned within the last five years.
Two years of experience designing training content and conducting dynamic sessions incorporating the student-centered, collaborative, and/or experiential approaches for adult and young learners, earned within the last five years.
One year of experience providing project management support for community development projects, earned within the last 5 years.
One year of experience working collaboratively across teams.
Experience using Microsoft Office 365 and Google apps, survey tools, Learning Management Systems, etc.
Advanced language skills in English and Spanish both written and oral.
Demonstrated knowledge of Costa Rican geography and communities’ challenges and opportunities for development.
A B1 valid driver’s license, and one year of experience driving 4X4 manual shift vehicle and availability to travel throughout Costa Rica, up to 50-60% of the time, including overnight.
Candidates should be Costa Ricans or have a valid Costa Rican working permit.
Desired Qualifications:

Experience in evaluating and adapting learning objectives based on feedback.
Experience working, studying or living in a multicultural environment, preferably with foreigners from US cultures.
Organizational management experience to prioritize tasks during work overload.
Knowledge of Costa Rican Public Education System and the English Curricula for Primary and/or Secondary schools.
