Principal Database Engineer at BairesDev

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Database Engineer to define and lead the database architecture and strategy across enterprise and distributed systems. You will oversee database design, query engine optimization, performance tuning, and reliability initiatives at scale. The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader with deep expertise in database internals, SQL optimization, and distributed systems, capable of setting standards and guiding teams across the organization.

What You'll Do:

- Define and lead database architecture and strategy for enterprise and distributed systems.
- Oversee the design, optimization, and maintenance of relational and non-relational databases.
- Lead performance tuning and query engine optimization initiatives.
- Ensure scalability, reliability, and high availability across large-scale database systems.
- Collaborate with engineering, DevOps, and product teams to align database solutions with system requirements.
- Establish best practices and standards for database design, query optimization, and performance monitoring.
- Mentor and guide database engineers, influencing a culture of excellence across the organization.
- Evaluate and integrate advanced database technologies and tools to enhance system performance.
What we are looking for:

- 10+ years of experience with databases, SQL optimization, and query engine tuning.
- Strong background in software architecture design.
- Strong understanding of system security.
- In-depth knowledge of memory management and performance optimization.
- Experience in designing and integrating distributed and scalable solutions, particularly in cloud environments.
- Skilled in relational and non-relational databases.
- Ability to choose between different architectures/technologies, understanding the pros and cons of each.
- Expert in managing CI/CD pipelines.
- Advanced level of English.
