Transportation Planner Engineer

Role Overview

WSP is currently seeking a Mid- to Senior-Level Civil Design Engineer to join our Municipal and Infrastructure team in Colombia. This position will be responsible for the design of various municipal and land development projects (planning and design of sites and subdivisions, municipal roads, residential developments, stormwater management, pipeline networks, among others) for projects located in Canada.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with colleagues on a broad range of projects and opportunities, from data collection and analysis to report preparation and supporting the team on various technical tasks, both in the field and in the office, including the preparation of graphic materials.

Apply best practices and contribute innovative solutions as needed for planning, design, and implementation of multimodal transportation, public transit, and traffic projects.

Work with a multidisciplinary team comprising transportation/traffic engineers, planners, designers, and landscape architects.

Prepare and/or review technical memoranda and reports to communicate technical results and recommendations.

Attend meetings with clients, stakeholders, and the public, as required.

Progressively develop experience and responsibility in project coordination and project management activities.

Key Competencies / Skills / Qualifications

Passion and/or professional interest in transportation and in contributing to the planning and design of multimodal solutions.

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Transportation Engineering or Transportation Planning.

Engineering certification.

8 to 10 years of experience in transportation engineering and/or transportation planning.

Demonstrated technical writing and presentation skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Experience preparing transportation planning proposals for both private-sector clients and in response to public-sector Requests for Proposals (RFPs).

Ability to collaborate effectively in team environments, with a strong interest in professional development and continuous learning.

Essential Requirements

Preparation of Transportation/Traffic Impact Assessments (TIAs) to evaluate transportation impacts resulting from land-use changes.

Experience in road safety analysis, including collision analysis and mitigation strategies.

Planning and design of active transportation, including the 5A / All Ages and Abilities approach.

Experience in the conceptual and functional design of urban streets and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems, including the development of safety mitigation strategies, integration of active transportation infrastructure, operational improvements, adjustments to traffic signal timing, and coordination with surface or shallow utility services.

Desirable skills

Experience in traffic operations and site analysis.

Experience using transportation software and methodologies (e.g., Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, Sidra, VISSIM, VISTRO, Aimsun).

Experience with macroscopic trip demand modeling to estimate long-term changes in the network and travel patterns associated with variations in land use and population.
